Our boat

s/y Valkyrja
The prototype was designed by Sparkmans & Stephens for British Prime Minister and world-class yachtsman Sir Edward Heath. Sir Edward won the Admiral's Cup Regatta on his Morning Cloud II in 1971.

The design inspired six sister ships built of aluminium by the distinguished Dutch boat builders Royal Huisman in 1978-9; the Huisman 41' yachts: Spirit of Nemo, Wanderer, Canisvliet, Ocean Bound, Jolly Duck and Nessie.

David Scott Cowper completed the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe on Ocean Bound in 1979-80. He took her around the world again couple of years later, also in record time and became the first person to circumnavigate the world in both directions single-handed.

We bought Valkyrja, then called Trick, in July 2011 through Sparkman & Stephens in Newport, Rhode Island from an estate in Maine. We have not yet been able to trace her to one of the six sister ships.

If you would like to know more about her specifications, here is a link. And some photos. Should you wish to know why we choose her and her name, read more here.
